STRIKE
Opening Reception:
July 9, 6pm-10pm
STRIKE is a large-scale exhibition of artist’s responses to two questions:
1. How does/could/would the withdrawal of art affect the world?
2. Does the answer to the first question reveal ways that art can affect the world or strike a blow on the structures of the world?
The first version of STRIKE, curated by Gavin Wade and adjusted by Liam Gillick, was shown with Strike at Brannans by Conrad Atkinson at Wolverhampton Art Gallery, England, 2002. Primarily text and graphic based, this ambitious second version at BASEKAMP will be reformatted and modified through new media to continue and extend the direction of the initial project.
This exhibition is part of The Big Nothing, a Philadelphia-wide project exploring ideas of nothing and
nothingness, initiated by the Institute of Contemporary Art, University of Pennsylvania.
